You've got thirty years. Nobody asked what for.

It comes a few months after you stop working. Someone at a barbecue says, so what are you doing with yourself now?

You've got an answer. It's just not one you believe. That wince is the whole problem, and the days themselves are fine.

The Thirty Years Question is the fix: a conversation, not a course. Twenty minutes, back and forth, until you've picked one path and can say why.

The conversation that picks

It starts with the question nobody else asks you: what did you stop being needed for?

It runs your answers against six paths for the years after work, each with its real obstacle named.

It argues with you. Say "a bit of everything" and it will tell you that's the answer of someone avoiding a choice, then ask which path you read twice.

Then it writes your plan: the path, the one thing for the next 90 days, your first step this week, the person who can help, the obstacle you didn't want to name, and how you'll know it's working.

Your plan lives in your Eden account. Come back in a month and it revises the same plan rather than starting over.

What you get

  • Passage Plan, a seven-chapter guide: the six paths with the real obstacle in each, what money looks like across thirty years, how to choose when two paths look equally good, and what to do in the first month when the week goes badly
  • A twelve-section worksheet the AI fills in with you, rather than blank lines you're left to fill alone
  • The conversation itself, about twenty minutes, until you've chosen one path and can say why
  • Your written plan, saved and editable, that you can argue with for as long as you like

What it won't do

It won't tell you you're doing brilliantly.

It won't hand you a list of hobbies.

It won't pretend the first step is easy when it's a phone call you've been putting off.

It won't tell you all six paths are equally valid. For you, they aren't. Finding out which one is, is the job.

Who it's for

You're in the stretch where the days are fine and the answer to "what do you do?" makes you wince.

It isn't for you yet if you're still working and happy, or if you already have something that would leave a gap if it stopped.

Built on my material, in my voice

It runs on the same six paths and the same honesty as The Second Act Playbook. It's dry, unhurried, and a bit rude about how we avoid decisions. It won't invent credentials or results for you, and if a section has nothing real in it, it leaves it blank.

Price

$49. One conversation. One plan. Yours to keep.

Twenty minutes is cheaper than another year of meaning to get round to it.

What this is

This is The Old Grey Thinker's process, turned into an AI.

The Old Grey Thinker does this a certain way. ChatGPT doesn't know that way. And you can't teach it, because if you knew The Old Grey Thinker's method, you wouldn't need this. That method is what you're buying. It's built into this AI, with the examples and rules behind it. You open a chat, give it what you're working on, and it does the job like The Old Grey Thinker would. No prompting. No setup. When The Old Grey Thinker gets better at it, so does this.

I don't know what I'm for now. Where do I start?

The Thirty Years Question

On it. Here's how The Old Grey Thinker would handle this, step by step.

What you can ask

  • I think I'm two of the six paths. Help me choose one.
  • I'm thinking of charging for this. How do I work out what?
  • Write my plan.

Questions

Is this a course?

No. There are no lessons and nothing to work through in order. It's a guide you can read in one sitting, and a conversation that does one job: gets you to one path and a written plan.

I've already read The Second Act Playbook. What's new?

The choosing, and the money. The playbook gives you six paths and a blank worksheet and leaves the room. This gives you a sharper version of the same six paths, each with its real obstacle named, a chapter on what each one actually earns and when, and then stays with you until you've picked one.

How long does it take?

About twenty minutes for the main conversation. Then it writes your plan and you tell it what's wrong with it. Most people take two sittings, the second one being the week after when they report back.

What if I don't like any of the six paths?

Then tell it. It will test the paths against what you actually said rather than making you fit one. If none fit, it says so rather than forcing it.

What if I choose the Quiet Ones?

That's allowed, and it's a complete answer. It'll ask you once whether you've chosen rest deliberately or whether the other five feel too exposing right now. Then it takes your answer.

Does it deal with money?

Yes, properly. Not a make-money-online pitch. Each of the six paths has an honest range: what it costs, what it earns, and when it starts earning rather than costing. There's a chapter on what thirty years does to your money, and questions the AI asks you.

Is this just ChatGPT with a prompt?

No. It's built on my material, it follows a fixed contract for every plan it writes, and it won't let you leave with two paths. A general chatbot will give you a nice conversation and a vague list.

Will it tell me what to do with my life?

It will tell you what you already know and won't say out loud. That's usually enough.

What if it's not for me?

Then say so and stop. Twenty minutes isn't a big commitment, and it's cheaper than another year of meaning to get round to it.
